Montreal has always been known for it's incredible cuisine. Every year, the best international chefs come to Montreal and open up incredible restaurants that attract every food lover, celebrity that comes into town and the rich and famous.
The first restaurant I'll be reviewing is not one of those new restaurants. It's been open for quite some time now, almost a decade actually, and after all this time, the buzz about this restaurant hasn't gone away. So I got curious and decided to go one night.
Cavalli first appeared on the scene in the early 2000's . Known for being 'the epitome of cosmopolitan fine dining for the beauty people' and it's picturesque and famous pink bar, I walked into it's Peel Street location eager to try the food that everyone was raving about. My first impression of this restaurant was "flashy". Everything about it was flashy. From the pink bar, to the gorgeous people dressed in the most expensive clothes, I knew that I was in for a REAL supper. The menu arrived and I scanned it quickly. Being an italian restaurant, there was a large choice of antipasti, pastas, carne, pesce and dolci, along with a very impressive wine and cocktail list. All main courses ranging from 26$-62$. Pretty typical of a restaurant of this sort. I decided to order a drink and the most simple thing on the menu; Cavatelli pasta with tomato sauce. You can always judge an italian restaurant by ordering it's most simple dish. If a restaurant can't make a perfect tomato sauce, it's no good. Another one of my friends decided to go down the same route I did and ordered the pasta, while my other friends ordered the Tempura Di Gamberoni Esotici Con Maionese Di Jalapeno E Sesame (Wild shrimp tempura with jalapeno and sesame mayonnaise. )After a brief conversation, our food arrived faster than expected from a restaurant of this type and we dug in. Eating very slowly, I savoured every moment of my dish. My friends couldn't eat theirs fast enough. It was just that good. A while later, the scrumptious food came with a hefty bill. This was the only shock of the night.
All in all, I've got only good things to say about Ristorante Cavalli. The location, the people, the food, the ambience, all was perfect. I'll definitely be going back!
